Semi-Finals of the 2010 Ontario Indoor Cup.

Well, we live to fight another day. Today we rose to the occasion won 1 game and tied 2 giving us 5 points and a birth in the semi-finals of the 2010 Ontario Indoor Cup.

Tomorrow Sunday 31, 2010 is going to be our biggest challenge of our young team's showing (not saying all the other games haven't been a challenge) however we have an early 8:00am - 9:00am league game against a tough Georgetown team, then right after that we must speed off and drive to OSA center in Vaughan to produce our game books around 9:30am - with a game start of 10:00am against a strong and talented Brams "A" team.

There is no doubt in my mind that the 97 Rising Eagles are ready to take on this challenge and along the way create some life long fun memories.

Hey, support the Rising Eagles by leaving your comments and advice on posted blogs.

The Key is Nutrition

Taking a look ahead at this weekends soccer commitments (league game and Ontario Indoor Cup) leaves me thinking of two things energy and nutrition that will sustain the team for the entire weekend.

How well we maintain and control our eating habits over this weekend will be a our biggest challenge. Picking the right food and eating at the most appropriate time could make the difference towards the end of Saturday or Sunday when the girls' bodies are searching for more carbohydrates.

My suggestion is if the girls require fun food on weekends like Pizza, burgers, fries etc... let them have it Thursday night. Come Friday we should start having the girls store up on energy reserves and preparing for Saturday.

Here is a few links that can provide you with information on preparing for this weekend nutritional task.

$1000 Raised towards Keep Smiling Alliance

This is a follow up post to yesterdays picture opt with Keep Sm iling Alliance. Brenda, the founding member of the Alliance sent us an email and pictures in appreciation.

To Everyone,

Some impressive team work. I have to say, well done, to so many today.

I will start with the team of 4 that got up with me early this morning and headed over to the Hersey Centre.

Thank you. Once again Buttercup and Bernie was superb today with the help of Caitlyn and Colin. Not only did they have everyone laughing with their dance moves but they were cute amazing on the sports floor.

As for Don Bailey and the Erin Mills 97 Rising Eagles soccer team. Wow!

They raised $1,000.00 for the Alliance. Amazing! It touched me so deeply that a group of young girls went out in the cold and sang their hearts out for those who can't sing right now. Well Done!!!!

As you can see the cheque presentation was a very memorable moment.

Thanks you,

Keep Smiling,
Brenda

Picture Opt Keep Smiling Alliance

Nice game today girls that should have been a 5-0 win for us- there are some teams that just match up well with you and it seems West Toronto is one of those teams we can’t get a win on. However we still remain on top of our Division @ Hershey.

I would like to thank and congratulate all players, coaches, admin, parents, and supporters that allowed the Erin Mills Rising Eagles to provide Keep Smiling Alliance a cheque for $1,000.00 that will be used to purchase 142 teddy hippos called Butter Cup -for terminally ill kids in various hospitals around Ontario. Butter Cup’s mission is to put smiles on people’s faces and hope fully that smile becomes infectious allowing others to smile too.

Tomorrow I’ll be posting some pics and a nice email sent to the Rising Eagles by Brenda and the Keep Smiling Alliance team.

Way to go... Erin Mills 97 Rising Eagles.

Now, here are the directions for our practice on Tuesdays @ St. Bernadette

Today was filled with a lot of action and fun that impacted me I would like to know how today impacted you. Provide your feedback or comments by clicking on the comment text link below.

Futsal @ Tuesday's Practices

A big part of a coach’s responsibility is to make a decision on what course action (training session & techniques) to undergo over the off season that will best prepare their team for the upcoming summer league and tournaments. Some coaches choose not to play in winter soccer leagues, double up on practices and play exhibition games, some decide to play in leagues but prefer to play in 11v11, 9v9 or what we are playing right now 6v6 with the official 5 size balls. There are lots of practice and preparation options out there what or which one is the best? I guess it all depends on who you talk too

On top of all the soccer practice options out on the market to improve ones technical skills Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).recognized Futsal as their official indoor soccer game. The game of Futsal is primarily played with a size #4 ball however I believe the smaller the ball the more a player must focus on technique and control of the ball.

I have decided starting this Tuesday January 19th 2010 and every Tuesday until the end of our indoor training to utilize the min soccer ball to practice with. Technical control of the ball must be developed at more of a rapped pace in order to implement tactical skills and plays heading into our summer league.

Those girls that don’t have a min soccer ball you can pick one up at the club house or at any sports store usually for less than $10.00. You are required to bring one to this coming Tuesday practice.

Please, provide your feedback on this Tuesday’s practice decision.

Jan 10, 2010 game Vs Erin Mills "B" Team

Big win today Rising Eagles Vs Erin Mills "B" Team, “way to stay in there”.

Thank you, everyone that informed me about Hershey Center’s score posting slip up.

It was a very interesting win Kiersten was the difference again in today’s win, however we played well enough to hold of our B team, what made today’s win so interesting was all the games played today was decided by 1 goal and there was 1 tie. It seemed to me as I looked over the game scores - most of the teams struggled with their first game back after the holidays but, the teams that have the better, stronger and talented players won.

Provide your feedback on any thing that stood out to you on this win today or just say some words of support for the team.

If you have not had the opportunity to be team captain let me know and also, I’m looking for a few players interesting in helping post messages, article or whatever that is more in tune with you girls’ requirements and style on this blog.

2010 Ontario Indoor Cup final Round

Just got to look at the groupings for the Ontario Indoor Cup finals. I'm not into making predictions on who is going to win what game...anyone can beat anyone on any given day. For instance Man United that plays in the English premier division just lost to Leeds United that plays in League One, 1-0 for the FA Cup.

My belief is, if you have enough game preparation and leave it all on the field come game time the end result is well deserving.

Rising Eagles attending TISS

I’ve been watching this very interesting TV commercial for the last few weeks - now that I think about it - I think its been on Setanta TV for a few months now… It’s the commercial promoting the Toronto International Soccer Show (TISS).

The TISS will last for three days 22, 23 and 24 Shanel and I will be looking to attend on Saturday 23 for a full day sounds like lots of fun activities for all kids and parents. Before I sign up to receive the $3.00 discount – totaling $9.00 entry fee for adults with kids under 12yrs free, I’ll contact the club house to find out if there is a team discount available.

In the mean time let me know if you would be interested or provide your feedback in attending the Toronto International Soccer Show individually or as a team.

2010 Ontario Indoor Cup - First Round

It’s the first time I or even the team has entered into 6v6 indoor game format at this level. We had no idea what to expect… accept we do play 6V6 and are the #1 team at the Hershey Sports Zone U13 division heading into the second third of the season so, 6V6 is a format we are very familiar with.

Click here to see 2010 Ontario Indoor Cup U13 Draw Format

The majority of tournament games will be held at the Ontario Soccer Center (OSC)

Our first game was at 11:45 Vs Brams U12 “A” team - of the three teams we were to play in the preliminary round this game was the most seeable. My late arrival to the game created a lackluster tone in the dressing room that extended it self onto the field resulting into a 2-1 loss.

Knowing our next game was against North Miss 97 “A” a team predicted to come out first in (our) group 2 –

we couldn’t go into this game with the same energy and emotion as the first game. An uplifting and emotional pep talk from me, along with a team self evaluation rally was needed in order to compete in the next game and it all came together with a 2-1 victory.

Going into our final game in a three way tie for first place in group 2 - we need to win against North Toronto the other team predicted to finish of group 2. The Rising Eagles kept up their intensity, momentum of its second game and struck the Nitros first with a goal that ended up to be the winner with a 1-0 disputed final.

All in all the first round of the 2010 Ontario Indoor Cup was eventful providing lots of story lines. The biggest story line of all was on a head to head decision with North Miss the Rising Eagles came out first in group 2.

Our next group stage game will be against Sudbury Sharks on January 30th 2010 and the finals will be held on the 31st @ OSC – 1:00pm

Now, this is your opportunity to provide any feedback on your thoughts on how the firsts round of the tournament went for you.
